Henry Alexander

Henry Alexander is an amazing instructor, performer and musical artist. He has more than 20 years of experience in the performing arts, both as a live performer and as a sought-after studio session player. Henry has now spent more than a decade as a private music instructor, giving young musicians insights and disciplines that only a mentor of his caliber can provide.

Henry specializes in teaching lessons for all Woodwind instruments, including but not limited to Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Flute, Piccolo, Alto, Soprano, Tenor, and Baritone Saxophones. His students quickly and confidently grasp important musical concepts including theory, harmony, song arranging and musicianship, and they have fun doing it!

As an accomplished musician, Henry performs and records – and as a result, also teaches - diverse styles of music such as Classical, Jazz, Contemporary/Smooth Jazz, R&B, Blues, Funk, Pop, Rock, Latin, Hip Hop, Fusion and Ethnic music.

As a talented and gifted flautist, Henry has performed in such places as House of Blues, B.B. King’s, The Coach House, Galaxy Theatre, Juice Joint in San Diego, Sheraton Hotels, Shilo Hill Top, and far too many Jazz Festivals to list!

We all know it’s not about being the best. It’s about having fun, and playing music well is definitely fun. Music lessons include:

1. Building a really strong foundation so it's easy to interpret or understand any part, and to play it with the right amount of practice.

2. Learning to sight-read music, so you can play it well as soon as possible.

3. Learning how to improvise (make-up) music, learn music by ear, and to understand and create chords, which lets you play music in different ways.

4. Play different styles from classical to jazz to popular music.

5. Learning how to practice efficiently so you can learn music as fast as possible.

6. Composing our own original music.

 

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from grade school aged to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all.
